The Red Wings started this four-game road trip exactly the way they wanted.

Simon Edvinsson scored a goal 1 minute, 30 seconds into overtime, giving the Wings a 3-2 victory in Pittsburgh.

Alex DeBrincat had the puck in the corner and found Edvinsson skating free into the slot. Edvinsson made no mistake, snapping in his second goal of the season past former Red Wings goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic.

The Wings earned the victory because of a big save by goaltender Cam Talbot moments before Edvinsson scored. Talbot (32 saves) waited out Penguins star Evgeni Malkin cruising through the slot and made a huge save, leading to the Wings' game-winning rush.

The Wings (7-7-1) moved back to .500, with games coming up in Anaheim (Friday), Los Angeles (Saturday) and San Jose (Monday).

The Wings appeared to be taking control of the game early in the second period. Jonatan Berggren (first goal) and Patrick Kane (third goal, on the power play) gave the Wings a 2-0 lead 5:15 into the period, seemingly demoralizing a Penguins team that was trounced 7-1 Monday against Dallas.

Berggren took a feed from Vladimir Tarasenko off the rush and snapped his first goal of the season past Nedeljkovic. Kane made it 2-0, as the Penguins left Kane open in the slot.

But the Penguins (6-9-3) rallied. Bryan Rust scored his fourth goal, at 7:19, wheeling around Moritz Seider and slipping the puck past Talbot, who couldn't slide quickly enough across the crease.

The Penguins tied the game 2-2 on Anthony Beauvillier's fifth goal, at 12:23. Sidney Crosby entered the zone and found Marcus Pettersson skating down wing. Pettersson got down to near the hashmarks and slid a pass to Beauvillier, who quickly snapped a shot from inside the circle.

The Wings, struggling on the penalty kill in recent games, killed both Pittsburgh power plays. The Penguins outshot the Wings, 34-32.
