A cause of death has been revealed for British actor and reality star Paul Danan, roughly two months after he died at the age of 46.

Danan died on Jan. 15 due to a “cocktail of drugs,” the BBC reports, following an inquest that was opened on Tuesday. A full inquest hearing is scheduled for May 28.

A combined toxicity of heroin, methadone, codeine, pregabalin, cocaine and zopocilone has been identified as the provisional cause of death, with benzodiazepine as a contributing factor.

Danan was “found unresponsive” and declared dead at his home in Bristol, about 120 miles west of Central London. His partner, Melissa Crooks, was the one to identify him at the scene.

Danan died just one day before he was scheduled to appear in court for a possession charge of cocaine and cannabis, according to court documents viewed by the BBC. He was also accused of driving under the influence last October.

Danan, who had been in and out of rehab for years, previously attributed his substance abuse to his unfulfilled dreams of stardom, using drugs to “self-soothe” while struggling to make it big in the industry.

The actor made his TV debut in a 1997 episode of “The Knock,” before joining “Hollyoaks” for three episodes as Sol Patrick. He also appeared in several episodes of “The Queen’s Nose” and “The Good Girls Club,” but became more known for his roles on reality TV.

From 2006 to 2022, Danan was seen on “Celebrity Love Island,” “Celebrity Quitters,” “Celebrity Big Brother” and “Celebrity Coach Trip,” among other unscripted series. In 2021, he appeared in the U.K. TV documentary “When Soap Stars Go Horribly Wrong.”

Danan last acted in “The Gift Musical” in 2020, the same year he spearheaded the founding of Morning After Drama, a Bristol drama workshop that was “aimed at supporting the mental health and positive life development of people in active recovery.”
